Wife

What are our tears for?

If not to cleanse our souls

tiny, wet reminders of the human condition

a brief memory of the world we live in

Tonight my sorrow pours out

my eyes flooded with despair,

I want to just scream and shout

“you’re always taking more than your fair share!”

They say there’s more sand in the ocean

than raindrops falling in a storm

my tears are the visual to my hearts’ broken,

proof that the love we had is now torn

That pint of ice cream from the freezer

eaten whole, the perfect cure

to this horrible chapter in my life

why couldn’t you just say it earlier?

You never saw me as your wife.
